Obstacles database (downloaded 01/12/2021). For the river network we used the
Ordnance Survey Water Network (OSWN) in England and Wales, which was filtered
to retain the primary channel (primacy == 1) and exclude small ditches and
drains (levelofdetail == ‘local’). Each unique outlet of the river network was
assigned a basin IDs. Basins whose total length was &amp;lt;5 km were excluded from
the analysis as these predominantly represented single channels or stranded
channels that did not represent ‘source to sea’ catchments (Figure 1). The
Tweed catchment was excluded from the analysis as 85% of the total catchment
area was in Scotland. All filters applied to OSWN were made to avoid
topological issues when processing small or incomplete basins.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style='text-align:justify;'&gt;&lt;span style='font-size:12.0pt; font-family:&amp;quot;Calibri&amp;quot;,sans-serif;'&gt;We calculated river fragmentation statistics (Table 1) for
artificial barriers (origin == ‘man-made’) within 50 m of the filtered OSWN.
Fragmentation statistics were calculated using custom tools built using the &lt;i&gt;sfnetworks&lt;/i&gt;
package (van der Meer &lt;i&gt;et al.,&lt;/i&gt; 2021) in R 4.1.2 (R Core Team, 2021).
