Description: In 2021 Firefighters on the Mud Lick wildfire prepared for continued growth of the fire in a northeast and southwest direction. In operational response to this threat, fire managers started work on a contingency line along the Ridge Road to protect the city of Salmon and its municipal watershed. A fuel break was created that now runs from the intersection of the Ridge Road 020 and Stormy Peak Road 023, south to intersection of the Ridge Road 020 and the Iron Creek Road 045. An existing fuel break created during the Clear Creek wildfire of 2000 was re-cleared of small diameter trees and is now within this fuel break, extending 24 miles in a north/south orientation along the Ridge Road and measuring 150 feet in width.
