The following datasets were used in the creation of this feature class: BLM_WesternUS_GRSG_ROD_HabitatMgmtAreas_Feb2020, Sagebrush Focal Areas (SFA), Bi-State Greater Sage-Grouse Habitat, USFWS Priority Areas for Conservation (PAC), and USFWS Current Range. All feature classes were projected to the NAD_1983_Albers coordinate system.
BLM_WesternUS_GRSG_ROD_HabitatMgmtAreas_Feb2020: Feature class was dissolved to the original Hab_Type field. Source and Habitat_Type fields were added to the attribute table and populated with data source and habitat types dictated by the data layers for future analysis. The Source field refers to the original source of the data - for this feature class, "ROD_HabitatMgmtAreas_Feb2020". The Habitat_Type field indicates the type of habitat. For this file, it is the same as the Hab_Type field from the original ROD_HabitatMgmtAreas_Feb2020 file.
GRSG Bi-State: Feature class was dissolved to the original Bi-State HabType field: BiState GrSG and Connective GRSG Habitat. The ROD_HabitatMgmtAreas_Feb2020 data was then merged with the dissolved Bi-State feature class. Source and Habitat_Type fields in the merged file were updated with data source and habitat types for future analysis according to Bi-State habitat type.
USFWS GRSG PAC: The ROD_HabitatMgmtAreas_Feb2020 and Bi-State data were unioned to the USFWS GRSG PAC data. Resulting polygons that fell outside of ROD_HabitatMgmtAreas_Feb2020 or Bi-State habitats were labeled as GRSG PAC. Source and Habitat_Type fields were updated with data source and habitat type for future analysis.
USFWS GRSG Current Range: The ROD_HabitatMgmtAreas_Feb2020, Bi-State, and PAC data were unioned to the USFWS GRSG Current Range data. Resulting polygons that fell outside of ROD_HabitatMgmtAreas_Feb2020, Bi-State habitats or PAC areas were labeled as GRSG USFWS Current Range. Source and Habitat_Type fields were added to the attribute table and populated with data source and habitat type for future analysis.
SFA: This layer was used in a Union process with the combined ROD_HabitatMgmtAreas_Feb2020, Bi-State, PAC, and Current Range data to classify and attribute the areas of PHMA in these states that also are SFA. The attribute selection: Habitat_Type = 'PHMA' AND SFA_Name NOT IN ('', NULL) was applied to identify all the areas of PHMA that are located within the SFA boundaries. The selected records were updated with the suffix ‘- SFA’ (i.e. PHMA to PHMA - SFA) in the Habitat_Type field.
All unioned feature classes were then dissolved to the Source and Habitat_Type fields to create a comprehensive dataset that represents all five categories of data.
