USDA Forest Service Southwestern Region
The Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) was produced with data
from each of the eleven National Forests in the
Southwestern Region (Region 3). Generally speaking WUI
areas were defined on various map sources and digitized
into GIS. Each forest made WUI determinations based on
NEPA status or on potential status as interpreted by fire
analysts. Therefore, the appearance of the WUI projects
across the region are not uniform. At the Regional level,
the WUI data from the eleven National Forests were
appended to create a Region-wide coverage.

This dataset contains polygons of areas under evaluation for
forest fuel reduction treatment. The polygons were
interpreted by Forest personnel as being either in the NEPA
process or likely candidates for future NEPA evaluation.
The purpose of this dataset is to depict WUI areas in the
USDA FS Southwestern Region for possible evaluation as
part of Wildland Urban Interface Fuel Treatments.
WUI areas that will be evaluated are considered to be
"under consultation". This coverage contains all the WUI
areas, regardless of category or consultation status.

time periods may be inaccurate due to inconsistencies resulting
from changes in photo interpretation, rounding of decimal
coordinates during conversion and mapping conventions over time.
Any hardcopies utilizing these data sets shall clearly indicate
their source. If the user has modified the data in any way, they
are obligated to describe the types of modifications they have
performed on the hardcopy map. The user specifically agrees not
to misrepresent these data sets, nor to imply that changes made
were approved by the USFS.

Accuracy and completeness of the attributes were checked by
reviewing worksheets to establish validity.
The attribute "project_name1" was tested to ensure a unique
item and that no duplicate features existed.
The attribute "project_name1" is populated only for those
WUI polygons under consultation and part of the regional
biological assessment and evaluation.
The horizontal accuracy of the data is limited to the
parameters established for 1:126,720 scale mapping.
