Layer & description copied from ABCNM 360.
Albuquerque includes a five-neighborhood association area known as the International District. Comprised of Fair West, La Mesa, South San Pedro, Trumbull Village and Elder Homestead, the district has a reputation for high levels of crime and poverty. It also contains a high number of abandoned and vacant properties, the presence of which is associated with negative social and criminal activities, including violent assaults, murders, prostitution and drug use. Concurrently, it includes a number of neighborhood associations and collaborative groups that are working to improve their community and provide for a better future for all its residents. The map presented here includes a collection of vacant/abandoned properties, properties for sale and rents, and vacant lots. These properties were identified in a visual survey conducted over a six-week period between Mid-December 2018 and late January 2019. As such, the individual properties represented in this map may not be fully reflective of the current state of designation for this area. GPS conducted the survey partially in response to an internal assessment of need and a request made by the president and membership of the District 6 Coalition of Neighborhood Associations. The District 6 Coalition is comprised of a total of 17 neighborhood associations found within the geographic boundaries of the Albuquerque City Council District 6. The map should be viewed as a first step in what will be a comprehensive review of and cataloging for public viewing of vacant/abandoned properties across the city.
