Description:

This data was downloaded from the Lle Geo-Portal, filtered to extract sewage discharges and republished by The Rivers Trust. CaBA identifiers were added using a spatial join to allow easy filtering. Some fields from the original dataset have been removed.

This dataset only contains Tier 1 Site and General Information relating to the permit operator, discharge address and type. The date of permit issue, effective and revocation. Information where the effluent enters the environment (such as river, coastal, groundwater) for each permit.

You can download the full Consented Discharges to Controlled Waters with Conditions dataset, including other types of discharges and information on Tier 2 (Outlet and release) and Tier 3 (Determinand / release detail Limits) from the Lle Geo-Portal for Wales.

Quality Control

The Rivers Trust has endeavoured to clean, check and interpret the data, but cannot be held responsible for any missing or inaccurate data.  Locations for the Welsh data were provided by Natural Resources Wales and Wales/Dŵr Cymru/Welsh Water, points in the sea may be long-sea outfalls or they may be errors in the data. Please contact the Natural Resources Wales with specific location queries.  Water companies, citizen scientists and others are welcome to contact us to notify any known data errors on specific overflows and we will flag these in the map popups. We are providing feedback to the Defra storm overflows taskforce about how to improve transparency around sewer storm overflows, and would welcome feedback and suggestions at data@theriverstrust.org
