This layer shows the locations of Environment Agency water quality sampling sites, extracted from the Open WIMS Water Quality Archive, for six key chemical water quality indicators. Each site is linked to its corresponding CaBA Partnership ID.
The Open WIMS archive was queried to identify sampling locations associated with major chemical indicators. Data was grouped and pivoted by site, and summary statistics (minimum, mean, and maximum values) were calculated for each year. The annual number of samples per site is also included. Additionally, these sites were compared with those in the Environment Agency’s WFD Classification dataset to identify sampling points that share the same coordinates. The data are symbolised by chemical determinant.
The Environment Agency Water Quality Archive provides data from sampling points across England, including rivers, lakes, ponds, canals, estuaries, coastal waters, and groundwaters. Sampling is carried out for various purposes such as permit compliance, pollution investigations, and routine environmental monitoring. The archive contains data dating back to 2000.
This layer includes only data from 2022, 2023, and 2024, and focuses on the following indicators: Orthophosphate, Electrical Conductivity, pH, Ammonia, and Dissolved Oxygen.
The full archive is available via the Environment Agency’s Open WIMS website.
