Description: This layer shows the Health Specific Sensitivity Variables
used in the 2020 Heat Vulnerability Index. These variables show the percent
(suffix ‘_P’) and the normalized index between zero and one (suffix ‘_Norm’ for
Respiratory Disease, Type 2 Diabetes and Heart Disease by PUMA. These data were
obtained from the 2018 Health of Houston Survey. Type 2 Diabetes and Heart
Disease were reported as seen in the Health of Houston Survey results, whereas Respiratory Disease was defined as the people who had ever been diagnosed with
Asthma or COPD.
More details about the HVI, including the full report will
be available on HCPH’s Climate website once it is published.
