Description: This dataset was originally created in 1990 at coarse scale by a combination of assembling existing linework from other datasets (REO HUC Layer) and heads-up digitizing. The original source scale was likely between 1:250k and 1:100k. The original dataset was created by StreamNet GIS staff in cooperation with the Northwest Power and Conservation Council Staff with the goal of delineating planning units then in use by the Council. These original 1991 boundaries were substantially modified in 2001. This is the resulting dataset (2001 NPCC Subbasins). It is now referred to as the Low Resolution version because a subsequent effort by StreamNet in 2011 updated the ridgeline geometry to be based on and coincident with the National Watershed Boundary Dataset (WBD). That 'High Resolution' (HR) version dataset is mapped at 1:24k+ scale and is available as a companion to this dataset. The HR version is recommended for most applications. It retains the same boundary identifiers and names on higher resoution geometry. Periodically, the HR dataset will be updated to reflect changes (improvements) in the WBD. This Low Resoultion dataset is useful for archive purposes and as a reference since it was the version in use during the last round of NPCC Subbasin Planning.
