The University of Nevada Reno maintains several research experimental field stations run through the College of Agriculture, Biotechnology, and Natural Resources. In 2023 CABNR undertook an effort to assemble a GIS database for each of its properties in order to quickly and easily understand the state of the properties and to provide university researchers and the public up-to-date information about the field stations. The GIS also includes the 4-H camps at Lake Tahoe and in Alamo, NV. Updated August 2023. https://naes.unr.edu/facilities/default.aspx
GIS data are provided in the following formats: shapefile (requires ArcGIS or QGIS), geotiff (requires ArcGIS or QGIS), kmz (requires Google Earth), GeoPDF (can be used in the Avenza Mapping App), and a variety of CAD file formats (DWG, DXF, DGN). Data are also provided in an interactive streaming format that can be viewed in ArcGIS Online <insert URL> and raw data can be downloaded from https://nevada.box.com/s/3m9uabhegelqr03wva5boprgg2vchl0a.
The fully built out UNR NAES GIS database will host a wide variety of thematic layers including buildings, roads, easements, fence lines, crop type, ditches, imagery, soils, geology, and vegetation. This fully built out version is expected to be available in early 2024. The current version (version 1.0 – August 14, 2023) just includes property boundaries and parcels.
Parcel data was obtained from each county assessor’s office or from their online interface. These included Washoe, Churchill, Douglas, Lander, Eureka, Lincoln, and Clark counties, Nevada as well as Lassen County, California.
