The Water Management Areas (WMA's) are the areas whereby regional or catchment levels are managed. The National Water Act (Act 36 of 1998) requires the progressive development of a National Water Resource Strategy (NWRS), which provides a framework for the protection, use, development, conservation, management and control of water resources for the country as a whole.
