Description:

Local, regional, intercounty and interstate trails located in Berks County. This data includes existing and proposed trails which can be determined by the "Status" attribute. Any record that does not contain an existing or proposed "Status" has not been verified. This data originated from the Berks County Greenway, Park and Recreation Plan adopted in December 2007. The Antietam Lake Park region was updated in 2009. Wyomissing Park, Angelica Creek Park, Nolde Forest, Hawk Mountain, State Game Lands 106, 274, 052, 043, 080, 110, 315, French Creek, Birdsboro Waters, Monocacy Hill, Union Twp Rec Area, Spring Township Greenway Trails, Horse-Shoe Trail, Appalachian Trail, Blue Marsh, Muhlenberg Parks, Recreation and Greenways, Schuylkill River Trail, Freedom Trail, Kernsville Dam, River Place, Neversink Mountain, Lake Ontelaunee Kutztown Borough were updated in 2016. Antietam Lake Park and Mount Penn Preserve were updated in 2017. All of the known trails from the Metro, Southern Highlands, Oley Valley and Hawk Mountain Regions are updated. The attributes are not complete at this time. Maintenance and updates to the attributes and line data will be done on an as needed basis.

August 2019- Attributes for "Use", "Access" and "Shared Use" were updated to reflect the following:

  • "Use"- Designates Multi or Single use.

  • "Access"- Designates ways users can access the trail.

  • "Shared Use"- Designates the type of shared use.

August 2022- Attributes for "Class" were updated to reflect the following:

  • Destination- a trail or system of trails that may attract visitors from outside of the local vicinity to utilize it. Destination trails can cross between regional planning areas or jurisdictions, such as other municipalities. These trails may provide connections to two or more areas of interest.

  • Local- a trail or trail system that is contained within one municipality or local park.
