Description: HSEALVOL2_DM depicts known seal concentrations in environmentally sensitive areas along the Southwestern and Southcentral coast of Alaska. it updates the Alyeska Pipeline GRD data only within the selected areas of Tugidak Island, Marmot Island, Barren Islands, Semidi Islands, and Perenosa Bay/Seal Bay with data from AutoCad dxf files developed by the Kodiak Isalnd Borough. The updated Kodiak Island Borough data was compiled by presenting the Alyeska Pipeline Service Company Graphical Resource Database (GRD) developed by EMCON Alasak,Inc. as reexisting information to local residents within the Kodiak Island Borough. The data used to compile the GRD was largely based on Alaska's Wildlife and Habitat and Resource Habitat Guides ( ADF&G, 1973, ADF&G, 1985). The base map used for the debelopment of the resource maps was provided by the Kodiak Island Borough, from the IKB's Geographical Information System Oracle relational database. Resource information from the GRD were combined with the KIB base map data and data collected by Dames and Moore (URS Corp.) to make sets of maps that were taken to rural communities and focus group meetings for incorporation of local information. Community meetings were held in six rural communities on Kodiak Island: Akhiok, Karluk, Larsen Bay, Old Harbor, Ouzinkie, and Port Lions. After these meetings, the maps were revised to include local information.
