Description: These data are used to assess the extent of kelp canopy resources along the coast of California. This image file was created from Digital Multi-Spectral Video image files. These are public data. The Department of Fish and Game must be credited with the collection, analysis and distribution of these data. These data represent the 2003 CDFG survey. The surveys were flown between July and September of 2003. The photographs were taken from 10,500 feet, utilizing the Departments two Partenavia aircraft. Surveys were planned to coincide with periods of minimal change between high and low tides, to avoid strong tidal induced currents. The surveys were flown during early morning or late afternoon, to avoid glare from overhead sun. These data are complete at this time, although the user should note ommissions. The data area projected in Teal Albers North American Datum 1983.NOTE: File reindexed to match CDFW kelp administrative kelp bed boundaries modified by changes to California Code of Regulations, Title 14, Section 165, effective April 1, 2014
