Service Description: Smoke Control Areas were introduced by the Clean Air Act 1956 to reduce air pollution These measures now come under the Clean Air Act 2003 . Local Authorities have the power to declare the whole or any part of the district as a Smoke Control Area , by issuing a "smoke control order" The smoke control order can prohibit the production of smoke by restricting the type of fuel to burnt or type of fireplace , boiler or Industrial plant used as a furnace
