Description: This layer was created using the shoreline of the 10-minute grids (v3 2018), with divisions between the Great Lakes and connecting channels based off of:Descriptions in the 2000 Consent Decree for the boundary between the St. Marys River and Lakes Huron and Superior, and between Lakes Michigan and Huron.Descriptions in the Michigan Fishing Guide 2016-2017 for the boundary in Michigan waters between the Detroit River and Lakes Erie and St. Clair, AND the boundary in Michigan waters between the St. Clair River and the Lake Huron.Boundaries in the 1:24,000 National Hydrography Dataset (downloaded 2012) for the boundary in Michigan waters between Lake St. Clair and the St. Clair River.Descriptions in the Ontario Recreational Fishing Regulations 2017, Zone 19 for the boundary in Canadian waters between the St. Clair River and Lakes Huron and St. Clair, Lake St. Clair and the St. Clair and Detroit Rivers, the Detroit River and Lakes St. Clair and Erie. This layer was created to be used for the 2018 Commercial/Charter database rebuild, so the 10-minute grid (v3 2018) shoreline was used to match the rest of the data in the database.Version 1 03/05/2018SourcesConsent Decree, United States of America, and Bay Mills Indian Community, Sault Ste. Description: The state of Michigan boundary was created using US Census Bureau Tiger data (2010) for boundaries between US states and the International Boundary Commission international boundary shapefile (downloaded from their website at http://www.internationalboundarycommission.org/en/maps-coordinates/coordinates.phpon 2/20/2018) for the international boundary. The data was processed in the native geographical coordinate system (NAD 1983), but when projected into Michigan Georef, the international boundary appeared distorted in some areas, not because the underlying data was incorrect but because the data was reprojected for long stretches of lines using only two vertices. In Lake Superior, this created a difference of up to 1 mile along the border for the line segment that extended from near Isle Royale to Whitefish Point with only 2 vertices. To minimize this distortion upon reprojection into Michigan Georef, line segments were broken into smaller pieces. This was done by first using the Generate Points Along Line tool to create points approximately every 600 meters along the international boundary. Then, the Split Line at Point tool to was used to split the international boundary line at 600 meter increments using the points created by the Generate Points Along Line tool. This line was then converted to a polygon, which was used to clip the Tiger census data at the international boundary. V1 03/05/2017

Description: Whole 10-minute grids from the v3 10-minute grid GIS layer were assigned to statistical districts to match boundaries in existing GIS layers. The Dissolve tool was used to dissolve the 10-minute grid layer (v3) to create statistical district boundaries. The MI-6 and MH-1 statistical districts were clipped to end at the boundary of the St. Mary’s River as described in the 2000 Consent Decree AND “MICH”in Lake Erie was modified to end at the Lake Erie/Detroit River boundary as described in the 2016-2017 Michigan Fishing Guide.V1.2 03/05/2018SourcesConsent Decree, United States of America, and Bay Mills Indian Community, Sault Ste.
